Here's a shot taken earlier before the cloud came back. This is greatly resized for the forum, higher res much better!

John, that's a great shot - I was keeping an eye on the sky and never got that much clarity - just the Moon in and out of 80% cloud. Supposed to be clearing later though.

That's a cracker John. Especially picking up the outer planets in the same frame!. What did you use to get the star spikes?, closed aperture or the filter?
Circlet looks really striking so close to the Moon!
No sky like that here this evening. Seen the Moon once and that was it.

Thanks guy's.
Martin - aperture closed down to 5.6 and 13" no filters used. Neptune just about visible on higher res image.
Paul - no sign of any clear sky yet.

Funnily enough it's not an effect I often get. Minolta lens designs have traditionally had "circular apertures", or almost circular. This prevents having spikes on starfield images - it results in smoother bokeh - ie cleaner out of focus areas in shots with limited depth of field..

Very nice effort, John. I'm sure it looks great in hi-res.
