This is a wagtail that came to our pond. I was using a 100-400mm lens with a 1.4 X converter ,handheld  and I should have had the speed a lot higher.  After the shot I got my tripod but it didn't return. My verdict ? It could have, should have been better . I also had light problems and had to push the ISO up . The second photo  is a female pheasant that got lost, I think. It's on a 15 metre wide grass verge opposite my home and I live on the edge of a housing estate., semi-urban.

If anyone is thinking of getting the Canon 100-400mm lens please let me know I can let you know what it's like. It certainly doesn't like low light, hence the high ISO and noise in both photos.

Those are brillant John! I love to see bird photography. Educational too because I'm not familar with all the bird species. Looks like you took those from a nature reserve, rather than your back garden pond!. Thanks for sharing those  Smiley

Cheers, Martin. I haven't see the pheasant since so I suppose it got back to where it it should have been - hopefully ,anyway.
