Just heard reports of a bright and beautiful NLC display now 25 degrees high. If it's clear where you are then be on the alert.
Sky is hopeless here. Will be keeping an eye out anyway.

I looked out about 0200BST - the cloud cover was almost 100% except for a clear patch to the North about 10deg x 3deg which I thought was unusually bright but couldn't see any structure so I went back to bed.

A clear gap opened up in the E of N at 23.50 BST and I saw a section of the display for over 10 min's. At this time it was type 3 brightness and 20 degrees high to the R of Capella consisting of thick type IIb white-blue bands. It looked like a good display. Sky was too poor to take images. It cleared again here at 03.00 and despite a clear sky down to Al Nath I seen no further NLC activity. Looked to have been at it's best after sunset. Fingers crossed for clear skies and another display tonight.
