RNAS Culdrose

Back home from a week in Cornwall and saw the sun  only a couple of times so  very poor light for photography- grey skies  and 7C but it was a break. We stayed in a cottage at Poldhu Cove near Lizard. I'm sorting the photos. These were taken at RNAS Culdrose through a security fence with a nasty cold wind blowing so the fencing blew away from the lens  and that caused it to show on many photos so those have been deleted.I went on Thursday and was told that the following morning there would be a fly past of Jetstreams on their last RAF flight before being sold off and replaced so we stopped to see that on the way back home on Friday.None of the aircraft were near and through the fence photography isn't the best. Here are Merlins,  a Sea King rescue helicopter,Hawk trainers and a Squirrel (the royal blue one-) and the Jetstreams. I was able to stand on a 4' foot embankment to photograph those as they did a fly past  well above the fence and then came in one by one to land and  I could have done with less shutter speed than 1/800 sec. to have got more blur on the props.

Plodding ion with them,Anton. 4&5 were above the fence,it's the ones on the ground and the hoovering Merlin that were taken through the wire but the lens has to be resting on it so I gripped the fence with my fingers and made  fist for the lens to rest on- seems to have worked for some but as I mentioned the gusts of wind took the fence away a few cms. and that was enough to see the blur of it sometimes in  a vertical band.

John you have made a great impression on your first post after your break, the images are great, in fact they are excellent considering the grey sky you had to contend with plus shooting them through the wire! - challenging conditions indeed. Love the feeling of power in the last image,and as Conor said the sound must have been impressive.

Thanks both and you're spot on - the roar of this engines is fantastic - must appeal  to that deep primordial feeling we humans have .  I forgot this one. I wonder if a computer makes  up those crazy Tinypic  passwords or does someone sit there and think 'this will get them going ?" lol.

Nice close up shot of the cockpit and pilot, and yes I get them too and they drive me insane, I like to think it's a human having a laugh.
