There are some great pictures there!  I'd happily go back to Iceland anytime to check out the northern lights! Smiley

 Yes,  breathtaking indeed,Richard.

An Iceland trip is on my agenda, Mark.I'd rather go with a Tour than arrive and wonder where to go and how to get there etc. With the peak of activity in 2013 between now (tester trip) and then  will be ok. so time to plan/research.

Let me know when you do John, i've been quite a few times now so happy to share advice and experience!  Best place to start with is the IcelandAir website - sign up to their email list then they will send you all the offers etc.  We've always used IcelandAir - you can either buy various parts of the package seperately from them or buy the whole caboodle, flights, hotel, transfers, tours etc.  http://www.icelandair.co.uk/

These are stunning aurora images John!, thanks very much for posting these. The one with the figures standing watching the green aurora is fantastic and really puts me in the mood for solar maximum action  Smiley

I sent an email to a friend also an amateur astronomer in my hometown yesterday, discovered that he was not at home, but at the Aurora village, in a place called Yellowknife (Lat 62N) in the Northwest Territory of Canada. Seemingly it's -30 C there today and "due to drop away tonight while we are observing" Sent me a beauty of what he called a "raw" image from last night. Can imagine the view when the Solar wind stream hits Earth on Feb 1st-2nd, Was in northern Canada myself in 2003, seen some amazing displays

They make for wonderful photos...it must be magical to see them first hand.

Thanks, Mark. I'll give you a shout before any trip and thanks for the link.
