I just wanted to share an observation of two very bright fireballs I saw at about 22:45 local time traveling west about 40 degrees above the western horizon. Tracing them back to the east they came from the general direction of Gemini. I had just walked out onto the porch when I saw the first one streaking down toward the Pacific, and about 10 seconds later the second appeared in roughly the same location. Both were in the -4 to -5 magnitude and bluish green in color. Geminids? Pretty good start if they were! Finally a crystal clear night here and about 36F.

Here is a photo I took of the Orion region tonight

Nice image Richard, the sightings sound like they could indeed be early Geminids, hopefully this is a good omen for a decent show next week. Many fireballs have been sighted across the UK recently too, some have been Taurid members yet others sporadics. Hope you get a clear night for the Gem peak  Smiley

Spectacular photos Jonathan. The composition in the second one is beautiful with the snow-covered trees (or is that ice), Ursa Major rising in the north and the lights from the town. I just can't imagine stepping outside in weather like that for any amount of time, I'm spoiled by the temperate climate here. Thanks for sharing.
