It's been a long time since I can remember having such a long run of clear nights.

Me too. Yesterday afternoon's cirrostratus cleared to another clear night, six in a row....  But the air has changed, it was a bit cooler & noticeably more humid, and the transparency is better. The activity yesterday must have been a very weak cold front.
