Got a few images of the moon last night and this one caught my eye. 300mm ISO800 2" at f13. The high "f" number seemed to darken the background sky slightly and bring out the earthshine. The cloud added to the effect! The star above and left of the Moon is Mebsuta in Gemini at mag 3.

Lovely and atmospheric John, that cloud has caused some interesting effects with the brightly lit part of the moon.

Thanks John, yes that cloud was part of the leading edge of the front which hit here soon after, so was very moist. It has caused almost a corona effect on this and other images taken at the same time. Funny, earlier images with no cloud were very bland and uninteresting!

I agree John, the clouds give the image that mystic, eerie look and the tree gives some real depth.

That's a very nice and atmospheric image John, the glowing cloud (partial corona) really brings it to life. I agree with you and Richard - in that clouds really add a sense of depth, life ,and contrast to a night sky shot. Here's one of my own from last night...

Excellent atmospheric shots both, and blessed with quite a bit less cloud than I had - for me it was over the Antrim Hills with their cloud-forming attributes.

Thanks Richard/Martin, as you know photography can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes everything works for you and you get an image or two that's good, sometimes everything goes wrong, so when you get a good one then it's a bonus.
I like that image of your's a lot Martin, it's well framed and the light on that tree just sets it off.
Thanks Paul, pity you didn't get a shot at it.
