Not sure quite what this is called, I suspect it's not got a specific name, and is just part of the Halo, any thoughts ? I saw this as the sun was going down. It was in a line vertically above the sun at about the 22˚ line And with a plane The sun was hiding behind a low bushy tree

Well spotted John!. If it was 22 degrees above the Sun then it was probably an Upper Tangent Arc (UTA).

Still trying to get back through the forum after my absence, looking at John's very interesting images of a UTA. I saw something like that about a month ago, but it was horizontal with the sun at sunset. Would that be considered the same thing or is it a sundog? As you can tell, I don't know much about them!!

Nice capture Richard. I'm pretty sure that Horizontally makes it a sundog, but I'm sure the others will confirm that.

Nice image, Richard. It is a right sundog, not too bright though (maybe there was also a left one).

Could very well have been a left sundog, but from my vantage point it was impossible to see.
