Title: Forum Members Action Pics - Just For Fun!
Post by: martinastro on December 02, 2010, 04:50:08 pm
As John requested here is the new thread for members to include images of themselves, - preferably when out on a photo shoot in the middle of the action  :). This is an easy going and fun thread for members to put a face to the name so post as many as you like.

The above was intended for Face Down Tuesday on Flickr, a great fun group check it out http://www.flickr.com/groups/fdt/ . Unfortunately I can't use it 'cause its not taken on a Tuesday.

I only have one other pic of myself and this was taken a couple years back on an astronomy outing in Greece, we spent 4 or 5 days up Mt. Parnon with wonderful dark skies. We even got hit by an earthquake magnitude 6.4. The greek astronomers were some of the best people I have ever met. This shot was taken on my old 350D by Vagelis Tsamis.

Great to put a face to the name John!, both images are great, that looks like a fabulous location in the second, the dark skies and earthquake more than qualify it as 'middle of the action''. Nice one on the face-down snow lol, saw that one on FB. Thanks for getting the thead started  :)

Cheers Martin. The Greek trip was one of the best in a lifetime. It is organised every year, and there is a standing invitation to all Irish Astronomers. There are three trips, one in June, July and August every year. I recommend the June one as its a bit cooler and the mosquitos aren't as bad. Check it out on the IFAS boards next year, they'll announce the dates usually by May.

That's a great shot of you and the TIV 2 John. Did you get to meet Sean Casey and the crew from the TIV 2? I just finished watching the season finally of Storm Chasers last week on The Discovery Channel. I would imagine everyone was pretty busy!

There were a lot chasers around it talking to the crew,Richard and I held back until they'd cleared. I did meet a well known  seasoned chaser in 2009 in Wakita OK  with Vortex 2. I'm trying to remember his name.I have a photo of him with one of the Vortex 2 pods. Got it..Tim Marshall. He came to the UK to assess tornado damage in Birmingham last year. he;'s a civil engineer  and asses tornado damage.

I haven't come up with a recent shot of myself either, this will have to do for now. This was taken a couple of years ago at a Tall Ship Festival held in Crescent City, CA. I'm now minus the beard.

Great to finally meet you Richard.
Love the TIV shot John, I've followed their antics for some years now.
I don't think any of us are as we expected (I think thats a good sign?). :-\

A very cool photo - I think we're  of the 60's pop age, Richard. You look like a seasoned pop group member- The Eagles ?   Fairport Convention ?  The Doobie Brothers etc.. brill !  ;D  A great time to be young.  Do you have a guitar ?

We have tall ships call in here to our docks every year but I'd like to see the real biggies one day.

Ah!, to be young again. That's a great shot Conor, lots of pep and enthusiasm left in the body.
John, besides the Beatles and Moody Blues (I never did care for the Stones), I was and still am a Country Rock lover, CCR, Allman Brothers, Leonard Skinner, Eagles, etc. My wife says I'll always be lost in the 70's. I'll digress from the original thread topic and throw in a photo of my younger years, Southern California surfer boy, that has paddled into the Pacific sunset many times since.

Richard, fantastic to put a face to the name, I can mentally take away the beard and picture what you look like now. You also look like a very intelligent person which doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Just saw your updated picture, you look like a tv star  :)

Conor, classic memories, the look on your face says it all  :)

Nice to see you Anton.
I agree with you on Richards shot, I thought "whats he doing putting up a picture of David Soul?". That is a striking resemblance.

That's agreat shot of you Anton, and you do look cold!!
Thanks to everyone on my David Soul impression, I haven't heard that one before, of course that was 40 years ago, lol. I'm not sure what he looks like now but hope it is better than me!

You do look cold ..I thought you would be 21 Anton..lol.. this is very good for me Lol. I thought everyone, except Richard who a while  ago said he enjoyed the 60'/70s, were sub-30  ;D

Looks like you have nice paddock there too. The Horses must be quite hardy , I think you mentioned about bringing them in overnight - they'd appreciate that Im sure.,looks like a pony to the left.

Title: Re: Forum Members Action Pics - Just For Fun!

Great to see you Anton!, and like the others said you look cold there, probably thinking about getting indoors for a warm meal as I know I would be  :). Nice horses/ponies, we used to own quite a few many years ago and even did showing and show jumping so I know where you are coming from regarding the work needed to keem them. Good to know they go inside on the cold nights.  :)

Here's one of myself, not an action shoot as I'm trying to find a half decent one, this was taken several years ago on a hot Spring afternoon from my back garden, really adventureous I know  ;D

Excellent result Dave, congratulations on getting selected within the top ten of such a major photo comp which is an honor in itself. It's good to put a face to the name of the person who is an expert at catching these brilliant fogbows, the image in the background looks impressive!. Nice one on the manipulated images, it's good to have a bit of fun and let one's hair down  :)

Not sure whether this should be regarded as an 'action shot' or just qualify for a 'Prat of the Year' award!

Taken a few years ago now in the sun-kissed Highlands (I'm ashamed to admit that I can't remember the exact location), it shows 'yours truly' with a set of bagpipes which I'd bought a few days previous in the First & Last House at John O'Groats. The knockdown price of around fifty quid & the fact that they were made in either the likes of Taiwan or China, now) will give you some idea as to the quality of them - though I did mange to get a few notes out of the chanter on its own!

Luckily traffic in these parts is very few & far between so managed to avoid any suggestions on where to stick 'em by passing motorists! (http://www.mackenzie1963.freeserve.co.uk/Smilies/Whacky5_files/yikes.gif)
