Title: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: Paul on July 09, 2008, 09:01:10 pm Well, here it is, a place for those of us interested in many aspects of the Great Outdoors - Astronomy, Space, Weather and Photography all in one place!
Rules are simple - keep it clean, keep it civil, and have fun! Cheers, Paul. Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: martinastro on July 09, 2008, 11:38:18 pm Hi Paul

Great to see a new forum set up as it gives me some more places to chat about what we love, astronomy, photography, etc., and what we hate, the weather. Thanks for this. Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: Paul on July 11, 2008, 10:19:11 am Hey Paul, welcome to the forum! I know what you mean about the weather, I became interested in it when I came to Ireland as there's so much of it here!

Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: Paul on July 11, 2008, 12:04:20 pm It's quite shocking isn't it Carl? I think this summer is shaping up even worse than last year and that was bad enough.

Astronomy just isnt doing it for me anymore, no because ive gone off it, but only getting a handfull of observing nights a year just doesnt cut it. glad now i didnt go nuts and get an 11" sct as i was thinking when i got my scope!
Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: Paul on July 11, 2008, 01:29:48 pm Hi Fintan and welcome!
I know exactly how you feel - I've been able to improve my astronomy gear over the past 18 months or so to the extent that (in case my wife is reading) I feel that I have everything I need for the time being. All I need now is a bit more opportunity to put it to use! But my wee camera collection and the weather are keeping me busy until that time arrives - this Global Warming can't be far off now :-) Paul. Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: davegrennan on July 11, 2008, 11:40:26 pm Fintan,
The way I look at it is, theres nothing I can do about the weather, so I just wait until the clear skies arrive. When they do I take advantage. There's so much more to astronomy that just being out with the scope. For example I spend endless hours dreaming up astro gadgets to build, writing computer software and just generally dreaming about the whole subject area. And of course talking to like minded individuals. Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: John D on July 12, 2008, 03:09:56 pm Hi Paul,

Title: Re: Hi all, and Welcome! Post by: Roman White on July 19, 2008, 07:38:03 pm Hi Paul The forum is the best idea for those people who are in the passion for a single hobby. And you have here 3 hobbies together! ;) Great job! Some comments to the weather discussion here: I have not seen a clear sky in 5 weeks :'( :'( I had the same situation for 5 weeks in Nov-Dec 2007. But such troubles can happen in Ukraine only in late autumn/winter... and what we hate, the weather. Wow, I would never say something like this! If the weather is BTW, cloudy weather give us more time for the internet while not observing :) The way I look at it is, theres nothing I can do about the weather, so I just wait until the clear skies arrive. When they do I take advantage. (...) Sometimes these words could be the only existing truth. |
