Total in Siberia, approx 20% partial in NI. Partial phase runs from 0800 - 1000 UT in NI

Actually this was just me experimenting with the calendar which doesn't quite seem to work as I expected :-)

However, there is an Eclipse in 2 weeks time, and 2 weeks after that there is a Partial Lunar Eclipse in which 82% of the Moon will be eclipsed, so we have the opportunity to see both, weather permitting of course!

I plan to setup my ETX70 (with Baader film of course!) outside work if we're not too busy to allow any passers by to have a look and may even set a timelapse camera going on top of it - the battery will last roughly the right amount of time to get the whole sequence.

The Lunar event is on a Saturday evening so it should be possible to arrange an observing session.

I'm very much looking forward to both these events Paul. With luck on our side we may even have good weather and clear skies by then. I will be observing the solar eclipse from home although I'm tempted to retreat to a country location for a better experience. Might organize an observing session for the lunar eclipse. I will be observing both visually through my 90mm ETX and taking some 10x optical zoom basic static camera shots with baader filter (solar). For the lunar I intend to find a good horizon and catch the Moon on the rise with Moon illusion and eclipse already in progress. This should be good fun. Throw in the Perseids and August looks to be a good month.

I call it "the event of the year".

I will observe it from my home in Poltava.
12:10 - 14:15 (GMT+3); mid 13:13 40.9%

Hoping here for a good weather. Using my weather statistics (2006-07), I forecast +29C and 52% cloudiness on Aug.01

BTW, the next eclipse will appear:
in Poltava - on 2010 Jan.15 (02%)
in Ireland - on 2011 Jan.04 (70%, at sunrise), on 2015 Mar.20 (95%)
