The forecast proved correct today. Report of a tornado in Co. Waterford. No pics though

TORRO got the report to. No doubt John Tyrrel will be investigating this one.

I've just learned that John Tyrrell from TORRO done a site investigation last week. He's convinced it wasn't a  tornado at all. The damage was due to a microburst (still nasty) or straight line winds (SLWs). So that leaves just one tornado in Ireland this year (Portrush) which is well below average.

Interesting Martin, and John should know! What are the mechanics behind a microburst, that's a new one on me?

Great question John!. Wikipedia have a very good explanation with graphics...

The Irish microburst formed from a squall line...
