Thought this was interesting. From the UKWW Kevin Bradshaw collection.
There was a violent thunderstorm and hailstorm that hit Armagh on the 29th of August 1928. 1.69 inches fell in 50 minutes and there was hail 1 foot deep in places. Clogged drains and gutters meant that there was flooding in the streets.
It started just before 3pm (GMT) with a few large drops of rain and a crash of thunder then hailstones the size of nuts and marbles fell in sheets. The hailstones were either small cones with hemispherical bases or spheres of clear ice. Hail was still lying in places on the 1st of September. The grass minima on the 29th and 30th were 34F and 31F due to the lying hail.
5.10 inches of rain fell in 10 days at the Armagh Observatory up to and including the rainfall that fell from this storm.
