Autumn has arrived in style on Oct 1st with very unsettled weather for N. Ireland. There was a convective forecast issued so I decided to head out to image the scenes even though I shouldn't have, I'm currently dying from the cold. I spent from mid day until late afternoon watching the action. No storms fired off because there was a lack of instability and visually, I couldn't see the presence of any wind shear. However the cloud scenes were good enough to justify being out. Non-stop lines of convection passed through all day. At first they were weak but during the afternoon when greatest instability was expected they became more lively. The wind switched from a NWly to a more Nly and things became more severe. I was battered by severe rain, strong squalls, and even hail showers. It was bitterly cold, it felt more like Winter than Autumn. If it had snowed, I wouldn't have been surprised. Plenty of cbs around with wispy anvils and dozens of mammatus displays, the cells really tried but just couldn't produce sparks. Nice white convection and plenty of bows though. Here's a few images.

I headed home after this coughing, shaking from the cold, and quite tired. It's good to see some interesting weather again.

Very nice report, Martin! Haven't you seen any snow yet?  Wink
And I wish you to get rid of that cold as soon as possible! I know how hard it is to do something while being sick.

Thanks Roman. No snow yet but thanks for the get well wishes  Smiley

Just in from another day of weather action. Some lightning here and powerful gales. Thought I was going to catch a tornado at one stage from a big cell.

Not much unusual here; windy but not quite up to gale force. However the "shower" which has persisted since yesterday morning has finally finished.

And I have a different weather now. It is clear at the moment (unbelievable after 2 weeks of 'not so good' weather), and it was +21C today at noon. Warm enough for October!

It must be more N and W areas that are getting it. Severe weather here all day, and still ongoing. Gales have really picked up. The outflow winds from a huge cb blew the bins up the estate lol. My Mum, who works in Coleraine said they had lightning and nasty thunder. The intense showers seem to be easing now but the winds are picking up. There's a risk of light snow for Scotland tonight.

ESTOFEX didn't predict today's convection (hence no forecast up) but RTE did, and they were correct.
