Spotted this little thing in it's web out the front... Popped on the not macro gear and took a few... The best couple...

These are uncropped and I used the on camera flash for a bit of fill as at f16 the image is too dark even in bright sunlight... and I doubt I could've managed at the slow shutted speed that would have required, it was a bit windy too.

Those scared the hell out of me John! - I don't enjoy the company of spiders so I won't be sleeping too well tonight, checking under the bed covers  Smiley.

Excellent images though, that's a really nasty looking guy. The eyes and claws in number 2 are not for the faint of heart. Very difficult to get those kind of images in the wind. Nicely done  Smiley

John, #2 there is superb - not that #1 is bad, just that the limited depth of field is not quite in the best place - but you ought to be sending #2 away to places - truly excellent work!

Paul.

Thanks gents. The DOF is a real pain with this stuff. I'd never have thought to send these off anywhere, I just take these to see if I can. Do you think Martin King would be happy with images from West Sussex ?

Not fussed about spiders either John, but those are great images, I don't think Marty King would mind where they are from, send them in anyway.

If it is good enough he will show it. I was in your neck of the woods 2 weeks ago in Selsey Great place.

Ok thanks guys. I'll post up some more Macro shots of less scary subjects shortly.

Selsey is a very peaceful place, about 45 minutes away. I went there in May with a bunch from one of the Astro forums and worked on Patrick Moore's Obs Dome.

Glad you liked it Carl. I missed out on quite a bit of it as I couldn't make it both weekends due to family commitments, but whilst it was hard work, it was appreciated by Patrick and certainly made a difference. I've made a slideshot of my piccies, I'll dig out the link and post it up.

Look forward to seeing that John. A friend of mine was over at Patrick's on the August bank holiday and was very impressed with the work you all did. BTW, what did he do with the old 8.5 inch in the glass dome? I remember seeing thro that when he lived in Armagh in the 60's, it was a good scope.

Cheers, John. I've posted the link to it. I don't recall an 8.5 inch. The big 15" in the main dome. There's a couple of fracs and the 12.5" in the roll apart shed.

Yeah, the 12.5" "Oscar" he had in Armagh as well, but he did have an 8.5" in a revolving glass topped dome, I know the dome was damaged in the famous storm some years ago but it seems to have disappeared. It was a very good scope, I think it was Fullerscopes as well. Patrick was very friendly with Dudley Fuller at the time. Don't know where Dud is these days, I bought an equatorial mount off him one time but that's another storey.
