I  went to a small lake in the Forest on Thursday (same day as the inversion photos)  and it was frozen over and trapped  in  the surface  ice were carp.  I assume they must have come up for air. There were another two like the white one .

Yes, agree,Richard, it's sad. I wasn't sure whether to post it or not but it was an unusual sight.

That is very sad John, I really do feel sorry for the fish in those hostile conditions. Great images though, this is a Winter to remember!

Good pictures John!  Sadly we have lost quite a few of the fish in our pond this last cold spell.  It's a good metre deep but seemed to have frozen pretty much solid despite 'counter measures' being put in place - needless to say this didn't go down well with the fish, especially the big ones...

I think a lot of wildlife has been lost, Martin-i t's doubly sad that some bird species  fly here to get away from  such severe weather  in the north east and east (Scandinavia and Russia) and that happens to them.

We didn't lose any fish,Mark and having read that you have I can only think it was because we left the pump running so there was a circulation beneath the ice.
