I think this is an inversion,if not please shout up..maybe it's just fog. I drove up the hill after these photos and  it was just regular fog on the road on the hill tops. The motorway is the M5 from Birmingham to Exeter.

Awesome shots John, they look very dramatic taken in the storm chaser fashion above the road, like these alot  Smiley

Great shots John. I couldn't tell you if this is an inversion layer or not, just looks like low clouds skirting the hilltops to me.

Thanks for comments - I'll go with that then- just some low cloud but interesting low cloud nevertheless. We're  forecast fog tomorrow  in the Midlands and East Wales too so I'll see what that brings. Gloucester is in that overlooked area- not the Midlands, (SW Midlands would be actuate) and we're not the West Country but we often get what is forecast for east Wales, it's the same with house price regions - we fall in between and never get a regional value in the stats.
