With all our cloudy and rainy skies of late I haven't been able to get in much night shooting, and it's been ages since I've been able to pull myself out of bed to see the skies before dawn. This being around the time of both Venus and Mercury's western most elongation I decided to head for high ground this morning if it were clear. It was, and cold. The State was out sanding the highways, but I only had about 3 miles to drive. Cape Sebastian is known for it's horrendous winds but the gods were with me this morning, dead calm, but 28 degrees.

Venus, Spica and Saturn.

Venus, Red Antares and Mercury sitting on the treetops in the blownout twilight.

Pistol River Beach and 5 crab boats tending their pots beyond.

I agree with Paul, this was more than worth the early morning rise to get images like these. In my opinion the pre-dawn sky is always exceptionally more spectacular than it's dusk brother, there's something very special in the atmosphere which is difficult to describe however your images capture this perfectly. The second showing Venus and Antares is outstanding  Smiley
