This beautiful mammatus display was visible to the NW of Maghera on Nov 18th for 20 min's, it formed under a large anvil and was lit by the low Sun into a dramatic scene, the whole thing suddenly appeared after hours of dull skies and rain so it was a wonderful treat to end the day. Tinypic has reduced the quality, to see larger images check out the website report...

Beautiful shots showing this clinker of a mammatus display, very dramatic looking with the low sun shining on them. Heading to the report now for a read...

I did see these in your report, very dramatic indeed. I'll be posting a little of what we have coming through presently, not anything compared to this though.

Lovely mammatus shots Martin.  Yes, hopefully this time next week will be bringing a completely different type of weather photo opportunity!  Wink

Outstanding photos. I'd be more than happy to get shots like this on a US Tour.

Thanks Dave and John - yes mammatus are one of my favourite subjects too, I see so many displays here all year that I think they are fairly common, however a spectacular display, or at least a decent one at sunset is much more rare indeed and very photo friendly, these are my favourite kinds. I would say this was the best I have seen in years. Hopefully all of us will see plenty more this Winter with those cold airmass showers  Smiley

Thanks Anthony, I'm eager to get more photography done but it has been very cloudy and uneventful since that mamma display. I'm watching for lunar optics if the cloud ever breaks...

Best of luck yourself, hope you get out with the camera again yourself  Smiley
