103P/Hartley - Naked Eye Comet In October

Compared to the new comet, Hartley is still a celestial searchlight! Here's an uncropped stack of 10 x 10secs 50mm f2.5 ISO 1600 taken around 0530 this morning....

Excellent shots Richard, Paul and Martin, Hartley certainly still looks good. I was able to catch it easily from the back garden in the early hours although image not worth posting cause of LP-if it clears tonight i will get out to darker skies for a better look!

Great shot Paul, love the interesting background of slurred trees from the stacking and the satellite streaking beneath the pair.
Beautiful wide angle shot Martin. I had forgotten how close Harltley really is to Orion, because of my hills and trees, one or the other is always hiding unless I were to travel to another location. The predicted rains have finally arrived so Hartley will get a rest from my prying eyes for awhile.
Good luck Paul, but any photo is worth posting here. Hope you have good luck if the weather clears.

Nice captures Richard, Paul & Martin. Does anyone here watch the Sky at Night? Last night's programme was devoted to comets with Pete Lawrence imaging it afterwards in Patrick Moore's garden.
Pete also reminded us that around the 28th of November Hartley will glide through the clusters M46 & M47. Here's an image c/o Starry Nights Starry Night showing how they will appear through a 500mm focal length lens.

Does anyone here watch the Sky at Night? Last night's programme

I wait for the extended version on BBC4 - tonight (9th Nov) at 1930 repeated 0230 10th Nov. Sounds like one to make a particular point of not missing though.

Comet Hartley still visible though a bit fainter. In the wide shot it's near the center, that's Procyon at top left. There's also a couple of brightish open clusters in there but I haven't checked to see what they are. It still holds it's green color as can be seen from the crop.

Nice work Richard and John, good too see the green colour is still evident, Hartley is in quite a great location with so many rich star fields in the Winter MW, keep shooting before the Moon gets too bright. Thanks for the updates.
