Observed a cool lunar optics display after midnight on Sept 1st when the waning gibbous Moon rose through a thin layer of cirrus. On show where pillars, a fragemented halo, and two moondogs with tails and colour. Got a few images before they faded. ISO800 18mm, F/3.5 at approx 20 sec's.

That's pretty cool Martin, I don't know if I've ever seen moondogs before, especially like those, great catch! I say that's one for SW.

Nice captures martin - I had haloes round the moon the past couple of nights, but moon dogs are pretty cool! Smiley

Thanks Richard and Mark, moondogs are always a treat since they are considerably more rare than haloes. I sent them into SW. Some great fog scenes around last night too, just a pity the Moon phase was too weak for fogbows.

Lovely images Martin, saw the moon dogs from here but they were a lot fainter, there was also a faint UTA there as well. The moon and Pleiades were only half a degree apart but the haze spoiled the images somewhat, however........

That closeup is a great capture John, very surprised Pleiades showed up that well.

Thanks Richard, it was a close run thing with all the haze we had, and it's foggy here at the moment! so not much tonight.

Well done John, great to see another Moondog capture from the same night, I like the close up shot too with the Moon and M45, a very difficult subject to photograph.
