Salmon Derby Day

Salmon fishing is a very big deal here on the Southern Oregon Coast. Yesterday was the Fall Chinook Salmon Derby here in Gold Beach.

Early morning Sun and fog on the Rogue River

I count about 50 boats gearing up for the start. I have seen photos from the Spring Chinook Opening Day about 20 years ago where you could literally walk across the estuary on boats

No this isn't me. This was the then world record King Salmon of 71.5 lbs caught in 2002 here in Gold Beach

That's one big Salmon - the fishing looks good in your part of the world Richard, my Dad could end up going over once I show him that image  Smiley

The sunrise grabs the headlines here Richard,excellent but what a whopper of a fish.

Martin if my little brother saw these he would be saving to go himself, especially if he saw the size of that fish lol.
