I've seen a dust storm and indeed been in it when it arrived. At the time photographic equipment was rather more precious than it is now and I put it all away realising the damage it could do.
This was when I stayed in the town of Parkes in New South Wales in December 2002 en route to the Total Solar Eclipse in Ceduna. The Horizon appeared a fuzzy orange just like the video and when the storm arrived it was a bit like fog only fog doesn't get stuck into your hair and teeth (yes, really) the same way that sand does. We did as all Australians do in such circumstances - we went to the pub until things calmed down
