Dear amateur astronomers,

I have read about this on one of Ukrainian astronomy forums,
Bulgarian astronomical observatory Rozhen is going to be CLOSED due to the lack of money. With its 2-meter telescope and high-skilled staff, it is one of the most important scientific centres in Bulgaria.
HELP to save the observatory, together with over 1800 other astronomers (both professional & amateur).

Please, add your name to this petition:

P.S. Here's a rough translation of that web-page into English:

Appeal for saving the
National Astronomical Observatory - ROJEN

The National Astronomicheska Observatory (NAO) are the eyes of Bulgaria to the space. NAO is the center of astronomical research and education in the country. Each clear night the Observatory telescopes are directed to the starry sky and collect unique data on distant galaxies, extravagant comets, exploding stars and planets around other "suns". Here, researchers, astronomers conduct their research, here are born scientific publications consistently and highly valued by the International Astronomical Association. Here students for the first time astronomers understand what practical modern astrophysics. This very curious students and thousands of visitors come throughout the year to touch the magic called "Universe". So for almost thirty years.

Today, after recent cuts in the budget of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences means of the Observatory is 0 (zero) cents. Today this temple of science and education is threatened with liquidation. Therefore we, the friends of astronomy, protesting against the continued reduction of funds for science in Bulgaria. Saving the National Astronomical Observatory.
Turn to the ICJ to appeal for the provision of targeted funding Rozhen NAO to ensure its survival!
