I'm sure it was very interesting to see non-contrail skies overhead. Nothing lasts forever. I remember 9/11 when all commercial and private aircraft over the U.S. were banned for three days, the only thing you heard were military aircraft, and there were quite a few of those because where I lived at the time there were 5 military installations within a 75 mile radius.

Why shouldn't it?

No reason why aircraft shouldn't operate at altitudes where contrails don't form.

Sky is already filling with milky high cloud, very obviously contrail derived.

I'm really very angry about this .... CAMPAIGN FOR UNSCRATCHED SKIES

There must be a reason,Brian .Maybe they just happen to be in a wet, cold  layer of air, it can change to dry within feet  and then no contrail  or maybe it's something to do with the usage of fuel at one altitude compared to another.

With the amount of aircraft that are in the air at any one time, and the different altitudes that ATC's have to keep these aircraft separated, there is no way that one is going to alleviate contrails by any means. We live in the wrong century for that. I tend to enjoy the patterns that criss cross my blue skies.

Nice pic John, and a rare sight these days, I haven't seen any jumbos at night yet, however there where two military choppers in the air last night on the local area.

I look up and wonder where it's going and where it's come from and  the people who are on it -  I'm a dreamer Lol.
