Wow, what a day! Nearly missed it too, just a short clear interval after lunch ...

AR1054 has developed into a spot group visible with the naked eye (using eclipse glasses for safety, of course) - the first naked eye spot for a long time. The whole of the north of the solar disc is festooned with filaments of varying size & shape. But all of this is eclipsed by an exceptionally large & bright prominence on the west limb, clearly the same feature which was a prominent filament yesterday.

2010 Mar 13, 1351 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/5, DMK41. This is a single shot view (processed seperately for disc & prominences).

2010 Mar 13, 1405 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK41; 6 pane mosaic. There is a full size version (2684 x 1489 pixels, 620 KB) of this  here.

AR 1054 in red, white & blue:

2010 Mar 13, 1410 UT. Solarscope 60, f/16, DMK21.

2010 Mar 13, 1431 UT. WO FLT 110 @ f/28, Baader solar film (ND5.0) & solar continuum filter, DMK21.

2010 Mar 13, 1437 UT. WO FLT 110 (stopped to 100mm) @ f/31, Lunt B1200 CaK diagonal, DMK21.

A nice prominence group on the NE limb:

2010 Mar 13, 1412 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK21.

And that monstrous thing hanging off the west limb

1. High contrast version

2010 Mar 13, 1415 UT. Solarscope 60 @ f/16, DMK21.

2. Low contrast version (single shot with surface)

2010 Mar 13, 1359 UT. Solarscope 60, f/32, DMK21.

Finally the CaK whole disc image:

2010 Mar 13, 1346 UT. Coronado PST CaK @ f/10, DMK41.

Transparency very good (whilst the clearance lasted), seeing fairly good but with some wind vibration affecting the FLT 110. Temp 11C, wind N force 3-4 gusting 5.
