Another couple of suggestions for a static tripod and DSLR that you may want to experiment with are as follows:

1 Star trails around Polaris. By pointing your camera at Polaris and taking a time exposure you can achieve some spectacular results (your 'back garden' looks ideal for this kind of project). Do have a look at this tutorial & corresponding images which hopefully will be of interest (c/o Dave Thompson).

2. A very rough & ready final result, I know, but this animation was taken on a static tripod & put together on one of the many free animation software downloads on the net (I used this one which couldn't have been simpler to operate). Again the view from your back garden could make for a really spectacular result!

Good luck & look forward to seeing some of your images as & when the sky permits.

Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your images and input. I to do mostly static tripod and camera widefield astrophotogrphy, lots of easy fun with good results.
