I should add that the experts on the cometsmailing list are very sceptical about this being an asteroid collision, in either case it looks very interesting. The Hubble image is a beauty with the nucleus clearly visible forward of the dust stream.  Smiley

They've got to come up with a better idea then. Something has clearly happened fairly recently, and a collision of some sort seems the obvious explanation given that such events must happen occasionally.
