I've taken advantage of extensive cloud cover to reprocess a set of AVIs I took a few days back. Top row: LRGB composite; simulation (Starry Night Pro) Bottom row: infra red, red, green & blue images. Infra red, best 500 out of 3000, using Astronomik Planet Pro 742 filter Colours: best 500 out of 2000, using Astronomik type 2c coliur seperation filter set Composite: RGB with IR used as luminance channel CPC1100, 2x barlow, DMK21 camera. 2010 Jan 03, 0309 UT. Seeing mediocre, sharp but rather wobbly.

Brian, those are awesome images of Mars and beautifully presented too. I bet you can't wait until the next clear night for more imaging. Congrats!

Brilliant shots Brian! Wanna have a go at some 'monochrome' mars myself, hopefully later tonight!

Conclusive proof there, should proof be needed, that a cloudy night needn't be a wasted night!
I'm glad that Mars has not been in the middle of a major dust storm as we near opposition which, of course, would have obscured much/all of its surface features.

A slight change of plan - I had one too many drinkies whilst watching MOTD last night, Mr Health and Safety deemed it not a good idea to lug lots of expensive astronomy equipment out in the yard whilst 'merry'. Project defered to this evening instead...

Project defered to this evening instead... I hope the cloud cooperates, the clear slot only lasted 5 hours here.

Thanks guys!
I'm beginning to fear that this is the last decent image of Mars I'll get this year .... the weather has really deteriorated, there's hardly any clear sky and on the odd occasion it is clear the jet stream smearing is awful. If the jet stream would just go back south to the Mediterranean, where it was a couple of weeks ago when it was -8C ....
