Storm Forecast Issued: 2009-11-25 21:07:00
Valid: 2009-11-25 23:00:00 - 2009-11-26 22:59:00
Regions Affected
Northern Isles, Wales, western Scotland, western parts of Ireland/N. Ireland and western & southern counties of England (all of the UK is included in the WATCH)
Synopsis
A deep area of LOW pressure continues to sit to the north of Scotland, dominating the weather across the United Kingdom for Thursday.
Frequent and prolonged showers will plague the same areas throughout the forecast period, with local accumulations reaching 30mm, possibly more. Such regions are the extreme southeast, counties bordering the River Severn/Bristol Channel, Cumbria and western Scotland. Given already saturated ground, and already above average rainfall for this month, flash flooding is highly possible in these areas.
Numerous showers and local thunderstorms will affect many western and southern coastal counties of both islands throughout the forecast period, due to troughs and convergence zones embedded within the anticlockwise flow around the area of LOW pressure. The showers are likely to contain hail given the nature of the Polar Maritime airmass.
The threat of a weak tornado exists, particularly for southern England and south Wales. The eastern sides of both islands should remain largely shower-free, hence only a WATCH has been issued here.
