Got an e-mail the other day from the Royal Observatory, Greenwich that my photo of M45 is on the shortlist for Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2009 competition. I don't expect it to go much further as its no Ayiomamitis, but its nice to get this far. I took this in very windy conditions on 29th Dec 2008, 23 x 30 sec at ISO 800 on my crappy C8N-GT.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
I don't think it'll go any further than shortlist.
I know if I was one of the judges it wouldn't even have got this far, I mean come-on. Tons of tracking errors, no flat frames used, it's even badly cropped.

Oh, best of luck John! Yes, I can se its technical imperfections too, but look at it like this....

1) It's got all of the 7 Sisters in it. 8 of which have diffraction spikes on them  Wink

2) It has the Merope Nebula, and indeed much more nebulosity

3) You have, with considerable success, reduced the Sodium LP by reducing the red channel.

It's a winner I reckon, Good Luck!

Paul.

Getting this far is a great achievement in itself - just imagine what you are up against, too. Well done.
