I thought I'd already  posted these but a quick check showed that I hadn't. It's a jackdaw in his/her nest - the hole in the tree.

The settings were pretty much the same for all three. 105mm  1/200 sec. f 4.5  ISO 100 (tripod plus remote,100-400mm lens)

What is the max. Kb size  for posting ? 800 x 800 but what about the Kb. ?

Was it looking for a nest John ? I rather like the second one, but I'm not sure the hard shadows have helped much... good shooting though.

The second one for me too, John. It was a very bright morning (re. the shadows) and you can see the position of the sun- behind the tree. I wonder if I should have lightened it up a bit in PS. I'll look at that. Could even have underexposed the bird a tad. I'll go back and have another go .

Very nice, I'm with the 2nd one also, very nice bird images, looks like something from Spring watch.
