I've been clouded out, but for the short time of clarity it was the brightest display I've ever seen - I mean, 1sec @ f4 ISO400 - that's about four stops less than a "normal" display!

Hoping for another go later!

Same here - it was actually ruining my night vision! But the tropospheric clouds did worse, only got about 1/2 hr usable sky during the "night".

That was the most amazing display. It was cloudy here shortly after it started then cleared and I got some of the best shots yet with the 70-300mm lens. The detail in the display was fab. Then it clouded over again and I came home. Shortly after it cleared again and I was able to get the display from my back garden, at this stage it reached the zenith and beyond. While I was imaging earlier I was visited by a lovely owl that did a couple of low circles and a hover and nearly landed on my hand. It's beautiful to see nature taking an interest in what your doing out at night! Will post a few images when I get some shuteye.

Fortunately I left timelapse cam running all night - there were several breaks in the cloud and I managed to get some excellent shots of what is probably the best NLC display ever seen...

WOW!!, guys those images are stunning, what a fantastic result  Shocked, I like those shots over the lights of Larne....amazing.

My goodness, what a display last night, it was just stupendous!!. Observed from 23.30 - 03.30 BST, type 5 bightness, in fact, it looked brighter than any high quality type 5 display I have ever seen, the brightness scale may need to be modified lol. Breathtaking electric blue colours which were like a dreame come true. I seen a strange brown, gold, and purple colour along the top edge at one time. I had trouble with trop cloud before dawn so only glimpsed it in small gaps, but from what I seen it was beyond words!. The intense blue and white struture was like a skeleton or twisted spine - another absolute monster display. Bands, large scale and smal scale whirls, lens shaped dark lacunosus-type structure, herringbone/waves and knots. Difficult to describe in words. Certainly one of the very finest displays I have ever seen. During evening twilight it was at the zenith near Arcturus. Haven't sorted through images yet, but results are nothing like what's on here!

Thanks Brian, they sure were, they kept walking over and sniffing my tripod and messing up the images so I had to shooo them away, then they came back again for more, very nosy Cows, but equally as friendly, and I enjoyed their company. They came handy for an image too. Cheers.  Smiley
