Hey Tyler, I saw there was a confirmed tornado in of all places, Merced, CA yesterday. They had some video of it on The Weather Cannel and it was quite impressive, for California. They have several tornados every winter in the Central Valley. They explained it as cool Pacific storms pushing up and over the Coastal Range, the moist air somewhat heating as it compresses into the valley and then rising quickly as it's pushed up againts and meets the cold downslope winds draining off the Sierra Nevada. Somewhat different setup ftrom the Great Plains storms, but I guess if the right conditions are met, tonados can happen anywhere. i just thouhgt it was interesting!

Looks like 3 tornadoes so far, but One looks to have caused 3 fatalities, and maybe more.  Martin, Ill post a link to the photos of the california tornado at the bottom of this post. I used to live in the central valley 6 years ago, I remember one funnel cloud a few miles to the NW in woodland, CA. Mike H was chasing and should have images up tommorow. Too bad these dangerous storms had to continue through the night  Cry

here is a vid (lol its such a tiny cloud!!)

Thanks for the link Tyler. That's a good video clip of a very well defined funnel. Very solid looking cu for this time of year, no wonder there where tornadoes. I wonder if this is sign of an active Spring to come on the Plains.

Great to hear Mike was out chasing. Looking forward to his images. If you find any other images or video of this event please post them here, love learning about these things.  Smiley
