Wish I had of been there to see that! What a start to the season. Some people on ukww think the world owes them a living. I have noticed somebody has started a new thread on ukww showing how the tornado formed over Maghera based on the mountains etc. However I have no idea what he means lol. Too in depth for me lol
3  General Category / General Forum / Need help with browser on: October 13, 2009, 01:25:31 pm
Hi guys I havent been online in quite some time now.

I seem to be having a problem with my browser. We are running windows vista with interner explorer 7/8 ( I cant remember which one).

The problem is that, on some websites I cannot see images. For example on this forum, I can only see certain peoples images that are posted. The ones I cant see are displayed with a red x in the corner. It is so strange because I cant see Martins' images on the forum but when I go to his webise I can see them.

This happens on many different forums.

Any suggestions. I have a feeling it is something to do with security settings.

Thanks

Stuart

lol I know what you mean.

We have the telescope out in the back garden looking at the moon.

We saw the ISS go past about 2314 or so but we didnt manage to see it through the scope as it took us a while figuring it out.

We are really happy with it and the moon looks stunning.

That was our first sighting of the ISS and we had everyone out in the garden lol. It was great!

Hey just an update lol.

Thanks for everyones help and advice.

The scope for my brother arrived today!

He decided to go for the Skywatcher 6" Explorer SP150 without the go to for now.

He has got it built and would love to see the ISS chase but we have NO IDEA on finding things as of yet lol.

Thanks for reply Martin.

Do you have any other examples that you think would be good in that price range?

Is it difficult to find things in the sky without a go to? He is worried incase he is going to be zooming in on street lights or planes something random lol.

What would you buy in that price range?

Thanks again

Hey everyone.

We have had a look at some telescopes on the internet and have came up with these two.

We are very unsure of the terms used on the scopes and what to look for etc so dont hesitate to tell us if they wouldnt suit lol

1. http://www.telescopeplanet.co.uk/viewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=PON05H000042

2. http://www.telescopes-binoculars.co.uk/acatalog/NewtonianReflectors.html

The telescope on the second link is called Explorer-150pl (eq3-2) 150mm (6") f/1200 parabolic Newtonian reflector

Is it possible for us to connect a digital camera to any of those? Sorry if these questons seem silly lol.

Thanks for all the kind replies guys! We had planned to drive down to the space centre through the night to catch the launch of the shuttle, but when we got back in after that huge storm we watched the weather channel all evening and found out that they had cancelled the misson.

Florida is an amazing place. There is so much to do. I love it!

Hey all

We are not long back from our hols to New York and Florida.

Here are some pics I managed to get while out there.

This first one is on approach to Newark airport just outside New York.

1.

This is a view from the Empire State Building taken by my bro as I am not too good with the heights.

2.

This was taken from 34000ft in alot of turbulance on our way from New York to Tampa Florida.

3.

These next few are of a thunderstorm that drifted up Tampa Bay at 745am. That is The Tampa Skyway Bridge in the distance. It is something like 18 storeys tall.

4.

5.

6.

At this stage my bro and I decided to go a walk down to the bay front to see if we could get some more pics. This is the Anna Maria local pier. It is a restaurant at the end with fishermen fishing for sharks.

7.

One of the fishermen told us that there had been a waterspout in the bay the day before and pointed out this wall type cloud lowering. There was alot of wind being sucked into the storm at this point and a mini funnel looked like it was trying to form.

8.

9.

Here is one of a sunset to the north of the island on a place called Bean Point.

10.

Here is a pic of a dolphin playing right in front of us. On this particualar morning we decided to get up for sunrise to watch this fish feeding. (Sharks are frequently spotted at this time.) We were sitting at the end of the pier that I photographed above, when this dolphin decided to give us a free show. The local fishermen were all laughing at us snapping away with the camera. The dolphin jumped 4 or 5 times.

11.

Caught this one on another pier. This was incredible to watch. They dive bomb for fish. They certainly could give the local fishermen a lesson or two.

12.

On this night we decided to drive to a place called St Armands Circle in Sarasota. We spotted this car which is $1,150,000!! There were houses for sale in this area for $53 million.

13.

These last 3 were taken in Orlando Florida. We were in Downtown Disney when this huge storm arrived. ( This was the thunderstorm that delayed Nasa launching the shuttle). It lasted at least 4 hours and we were totally soaked running to get the car. The roads were like mini streams at one point. But the drainage systems were incredible. The water dissapeared instantly. The lpcal weather channel had said that this storm produced over 5200 lightning strikes. I have got some video of lightning that I will have to post up. My brother also got some nice pics.

14.

15.

16.

All in all this was an amazin hol! I want to go back lol

Thanks for all the advice guys. He is sitting beside me now as I type this and we are going to wait until we get home to have a look so no doubt we will be back looking for more help lol.

On a different note, I have got some good photos of some thunderstorms here in Florida, and some wildlife that I will post when I get back. Heading to Orlando tomoro where the storms are meant to be more severe.

FIngers crossed for one lol.

Thanks

Hey everyone

My bro has started to get really into astronomy and is looking to get his first telescope. As I have no idea about them I thought I would ask for some advice on here. What do you guys recommend as a good first telescope? Do they take pictures? Or is that just a long lense on a camera? Sorry for the silly questions lol. We are currently still on hols in Florida ( looking for some storms at the same time). Do you think he would be wise to buy one out here? Or wait until we get home?

Thanks

Stu

That is one great shot! That thunderstorm you mentioned yesterday in Glengormley was great. I managed to follow a decent anvil towards Larne this afternoon. No lightning but alot of hail and a couple of pics that I will post up shortly.
