Cheers martin, just realised i posted the same photo twice lol yea mark the passenger figures were pretty dismal during the winter months, it holds 1500 people and there were sailings where we had less than 100, in the summer though it was crazy, it was booked solid for 2 weeks straight when the ash cloud stopped the flights! I'm up on the bridge this week so il get a few more snaps when at sea, the view is awesome!

i think it was the stena discovery sailed on the dublin route, theres a few of these boats in the uk, but i think theyre getting phased out. very costly to run, your talking upwards of 15 grand a day in fuel costs etc.

Hi folks here is just a few snaps from work on monday, we were performing a drill and launched the m.e.s (marine evacuation system), it involved going down the slides and into the liferaft, it was a good experience and i didn't appreciate the size of the vessel until i was up beside it at sea level! She is some boat, its a shame she's going in september! Sad

i asked around with a few folk i work with on the ferries from scotland with no joy, it would be a cracker seeing one offshore, will have to make a habit of bringing the camera to work with me!

This should make for some interesting work on the ferries tomorrow morning Smiley Luckily i avoided the previous storm when i was off on leave., what was supposed to be a routine 3hr crossing took 12 hours according to a work colleague! This is what th met office shipping forecast is giving for tomorrow morning!

Southerly severe gale force 9 expected later

Wind-Northwesterly, backing southerly or southwesterly 5 or 6, increasing 7 to severe gale 9, veering westerly or southwesterly later. Sea State-Very rough or high.

That has to be one of the worst sea forecasts ive seen for the irish sea since i started working on the boats.

WMO Sea State Code Wave Height (meters) Characteristics
0- 0 Calm (glassy)
1- 0 to 0.1 Calm (rippled)
2- 0.1 to 0.5 Smooth (wavelets)
3 -0.5 to 1.25 Slight
4- 1.25 to 2.5 Moderate
5- 2.5 to 4 Rough
6 -4 to 6 Very rough
7 -6 to 9 High
8- 9 to 14 Very high
9- Over 14 Phenomenal
