Title: Moon Halo from last night.
Post by: John9929 on November 11, 2008, 10:48:24 pm
This shot was taken last night showing a Moon Halo that only lasted a short time before it was overrun by thicker cloud. It has what appears to be two "off centre" Moon Dogs. I have never seen this before. I'm sure Martin will have an explanation. The spaceship thingy at the top is a flare from the camera lens.

The intensity of the halo appears to be increasing with the density of the cloud, it just so happens those spots are where the cloud is particularly thick.

Active looking capture John!. That cloud looks to be fairly moving!. Judging by the position, 22 degrees on either side of the Moon, I would say those are two moondogs. Square of Pegasus is at a cool angle. Nice image  :)

If thats the case then Brian, how is it that one of the stars of Aries is clearly visible towards the middle of that left spot?

Hey Stevie thanks, it was a nice one but not as nice as this one which made spaceweather home page back in March this year!

John, this week's shot is a goodie, but the one from March is an absolute cracker - you have every right to be very proud of that one!

Paul.

Thanks Paul, but out of them all I think this is my favourite, taken Christmas Eve 2007 while trying for Holmes!

Thanks very much Roman, glad you like it. If you or anyone else on here wants to use it please feel free!

Oh... and I forgot to mention that the bright "star" right of center is Mars!
