Title: RIAT Fairford Post by: JohnC on July 26, 2011, 10:02:33 am The two official days at this Airshow were Saturday and Sunday (16/17th) but heavy rain was forecast for Saturday and it duly poured down all morning-torrential-Sunday was showers. I went Friday (arrivals) and Monday (departures) I don't know the ID of most of all the aircraft- I'll get a spotters' book but this first one is the new refuelling Voyager tanker for the RAF and I think thise I've I/D'd are correct.
I'll post a few at a time after reading what Anton and Mark said about the verification problem. Amazingly I uploaded some without the verification code coming up but anything over 4 it came up but the box was black and I couldn't enter the code. Martin/Paul. Any advice here would be welcome.

When I get back to Southern California I'll have about 10 Military Installations within about 4 hours drive, that'll be great. I ran some of your photos through Photoshop Elements 9 and just used Auto Correct and it did wonders in the overall brightening, color and contrast of them. Those ones I sent you back the other day were done that way if you still have them. Again, great shots. Love that awesome look of power!!!.

No doubt the kind of stuff we have here at Mildenhall and Lakenheath- They're RAF bases but used by USAF. I tried some exposure increase after seeing yours and noise and colouring began to show on the underside , I used Viveza2 - that will do small areas. I'm reading up on getting it right in the first place as I take the photos - ie. metering.

It must be hard to get the optimum exposure time for this type of photography and I think you have done very well with these.

It is hard getting the exposure right against a bright sky but I've dug around and asked a few questions of 'those who know' and post photos to die for lol..and spot metering will also help as well as metering on grass but also and crucially, I was told that often a lot of photoshop time goes into them and one person who produced a superb F-16 photo had spent 8 hours 15 minutes processing it and another is noted for coming close to HDR on them or doing HDR on them but that's being more like a software technician than a photographer. I'll find another air show to go to and plod on. Thanks again. |
