Title: Sunsrise/sunset Cornwall
Post by: JohnC on March 16, 2011, 05:51:54 pm
I thought I'd put these together so there aren't too many threads. The first  4 photos were taken at Kennack Sands (recommended to me by Anton) but most mornings there was heavy cloud or just a dull layer of stratus-nothing much in-between. The first shot is what I saw when I arrived and then I experimented with the shutter speed. The last two photos were taken about 5 miles away at Kynance Cove en-route back to the cottage and needless to say by getting up at 6.30 to drive to Kennack I was on my own and had breky when I returned.lol

The next two were at Kynance Cove on the way back to the cottage. The early morning sun  is catching the east side of the rock. The first one is as near to the edge  as I wanted to get as there was a strong wind blowing, I even hung the bean bag on the tripod.

These next photos were taken at sunset in the cove our cottage overlooked-Poldhu Cove- a wonderful place, very tranquil. The building on the top of the opposite cliff is an old folks home - I'm told it's £1200 a week there. I also experimented with the shutter speed after the sun had completely disappeared. I had the 24-105 on the camera and wished I'd had the 70-200 with me to have got nearer to the ship,it seemed to be circling there.I've viewed them at plus 25% and they are far better and the ship shows well and especially the silky waves

Here's the cottage and  daytime view of Poldhu Cove which was taken outside the front door of the cottage-we also had a a more restricted view whilst sitting in easy chairs by the patio doors  which are at the cove end of the cottage behind the palm tree.

Great selection of coastal images John, hope you enjoyed your tour of the area. Did you have a walk along Kennack Sands to the right of where the pictures were taken, the rock formation combined with the incoming tide is stunning to watch especially on a stormy day. The longer exposures taken at Poldhu Come have worked well.

Thanks

A fantastic moody selection John, 7 up from the bottom is my fav with the disk of the sun about to set over the waves with the ship directly below it - a stunner!

All these images are brilliant John!  What a lovely place to stay.  We've got a week off in may and are planning to stop in a cottage 'somewhere' - we can't make our mind up, we fancy going to Skye, the Lakes, Pembrokeshire, and now after looking at your holiday snaps the south west is also on our list...  Too many places and not enough time!  ::)

Some beautiful shots there John - especially the ones showing the Sun's rays.

Definitely well worth the early start IMO. (http://www.mackenzie1963.freeserve.co.uk/Smilies/AMac%27s/fing02%5B1%5D.gif)

Many thanks all.

Anton-Unfortunately the tide times and sunsets didn't coincide, the light was awful anyway but we're returning in  November so I hope we get some better light days.  My wife forgot her wells so we couldn't walk along the rocks at Kennack sands. I did take some rock photos but not on the tripod on the  mid-day visitant and  crouching down  caused me to be a bit unsteady-and I wasn't happy with the results (me being me ) Infact I will post a couple so others can see where you mean.

I'm very pleased with the slow shutter speed photos at Poldhu  and Martin..that photo you like looks even better  when taken up to plus 25%.  or even just full screen. I'll send you a full size one by Email so you can see it. One for the printers I think.

Mark..I think for photos I'd be off to Skye - I went to Mull in August 2008 and it was stunning. You can always nip down to Cornwall  or Pembrokeshire for a couple of days but Scotland needs more time. Pembrokeshire is very good too but we noticed from web photos that at St. David's it seems there are just cliffs and St. David's town-infact it's no bigger than a village but has small cathedral (was a monastery) that qualifies it to be a city, is a mile or two from the sea.

Here's Kennack Sands  rocks that Anton mentioned.
