Title: Massive Snow Flakes! - Feb 14th
Post by: martinastro on February 14, 2011, 01:57:22 pm
A large shower moved into the mid Ulster area this afternoon and intensified with red radar echoes. It produced a heavy long lasting snow shower with the largest snow flakes I, and everyone else here, have ever seen in their lives!. Average size was golf ball however the bigger falkes were the length of tennis balls, they were truly massive. I couldn't believe the size of them!, quite an experience. The convective cell is now moving N. Thanks to Paul Martin for the tip off, he had big snow flakes in Omagh previous to this.

Got some rubbish pics and vid from the back barden.

Those are truly monster flakes Martin, a few hours of accumulation would have been interesting to see.

lol, pity they melted on impact with the ground. I couldn't believe how big they were, this image was taken at 20mm, check out the size of that one to the lower R, it wasn't close to the camera either. This was a great day with giant snow flakes followed by an aurora, I'm liking the vibe I'm getting about 2011 already.
