Title: Langdale Night Sky
Post by: Anton on February 12, 2011, 12:04:47 pm
After completing my work in Tyneside on Thursday I took the A66 across the country and headed towards the Lake District. Time was against me I only had had 2 hours before the sunset so wasted no time in getting to Langdale Valley. I only managed to take a few quick pics in daylight so opted to stay over and prayed  for some clear skies. Managed to find a Hotel (www.dungeon-ghyll.co.uk) at the foot of the mountains which was ideal.

The following day sees the return of mist and rain typical Lake District weather.

Excellent,Anton. I really like the jetty photo. I bet it looked good up there when we had the snow.

I can see why you decided to stop over Anton - what fantastic scenery! Love the lighting & 'moody' feel to that penultimate shot with the boats in the mist & also that spectacular second shot with the stars against the moonlit mountains. Incidentally, the starfield in that second shot looks very familiar as I've used it several times (in vain so far) to 'star hop' to the large but faint Seagull nebula (IC2177). You've caught some lovely open clusters in there including my favourite M41 (below & slightly to the left of dazzling Sirius) and M46 & M47 over towards the left of the image.

Sadly all of these clusters never rise very high in the sky for us 'northerners'. (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/traurig/sad-smiley-002.gif)
