Title: Mamatus clouds
Post by: stuart2588 on September 10, 2008, 11:22:18 am
I saw these mamatus clouds forming this morning to my south west.

I quickly ran into the house after a driving lesson at 9am and tried to get a few snaps but the power lines got in the way!!lol

Nice early catch Suart!. Good mammatus  :)

Be on the alert today because there's a risk of tornadoes for Ireland/N. Ireland. Radar showing very intense rainfall, any cbs which do form will be in a highly sheared environment. The supercell parameter is also present over much of the country. ESTOFEX have a risk of t-storms over central and western N. Ireland.

The last two shots of altostratus with an uneven lower surface are typical of cloud forming in a strong jet stream - a clear indication that rain is not far off. Noticed similar here around about 9am & it was raining by 10....
