Storm Forecast Issued: 2010-11-01 22:15:00
Valid: 2010-11-02 00:00:00 - 2010-11-02 23:59:00

Regions Affected
W & SW Scotland (Scotland, N England, N Wales, Northern Ireland, W, N + E Ireland are included in the WATCH)

Synopsis

A deep area of Low pressure "Yentl" (FU Berlin) over Iceland will dominate the weather across the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

A Pm airmass is advected southwards across the country as a cold front clears the far SE around dawn. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast to affect the western side of Scotland and the Northern Isles during the day. Given the airmass, hail is likely in many of the showers, perhaps locally moderate in size across the Northern Isles. There exists a risk of a weak tornado developing.

Showers will persist into the night period over the same areas, whilst further south a frontal feature moves eastwards across central U.K..

What a night storm chasing at the north coast!, stunning storms over the sea, a possible severe cell produced over 31 bolts which could be seen for tens of miles, great thunder too, the outflow and intense rain shook the car hard!. Fantastic chase, wasn't back until 5am. Even the police were watching the light show, I could see anvils and dark towers lit up by strobing lightning like daytime, long story behind this. This was a spectacular night, spent 6 hours in the car watching storms from near pitch black locations, it wasn't an image success though as I was driving around looking for locations to shoot but what a light a show!. Storms arrived over the NW, crossed the N coast then hit Scotland.

According to radar grabs it seems those storms over the NW and N coast of NI last night were possible supercell thunderstorms!

I'm only after seeing four very bright blue flashes of lightning out in the North, lit up my whole garden they did, so there must be something somewhere!

Yes John, glad you saw those too tonight, I saw bright blue flashes to the N, and my lights flickered, those are from storms on the N coast of NI and over W Scotland tonight. Wish I was there tonight to have seen those, a mix of c-g and i-c bolts. Very bright flashes for us to see them from here.
