Title: Friday's sunset rainbow
Post by: JohnC on August 27, 2010, 11:29:57 pm
Well, fair play to myself lol. I had just sat down to watch the Inter Milan-Athletico Madrid game when the sun came out and 'blackened' the sky in the east, along with it came some drizzly rain, perfect for a rainbow so I downed my coffee and cake, abandoned the cup game and drove up to my favourite location.

Very intense rainbow John, love the sunset too, beautiful colors. Hope you got back for the end of the game!

These are great John - perfect light, colour, and exposure. Getting the secondary bow at sunset is the icing on the cake  :)

Thanks both. The WB was set on auto instead of my usual cloudy,I don't know how this came about ,dashing up the hill and changing lenses ..the 17-40 was too wide and didn't get in on the rainbow so had to change to the 24-105, also auto wouldn't work so had to focus manually, all takes time and these rainbows can  disappear as quickly as the appear so the WB was overlooked but it's not something I usually check as I permanently use 'cloudy'. All part of the learning curve..ie. check every setting and just hope there's time.

You mention using "Cloudy" WB. I use it also when I shoot jpeg, which is 95% of the time. I feel it gives the overall image a tinge of brown and that "old world" feel, just my opinion. When I shoot RAW on those special ocassions, of course I can shoot anything and change it in DPP. I like RAW, but storage space is the biggest problem and kind of a hassle having to convert the images. I still use Photoshop 4 (really), but I find I can do almost anything with it if I need to.
