Title: Swallow in flight
Post by: JohnMurphy on June 06, 2010, 12:26:26 am
Sorry I've not been around much - up to my eyes in work at the mo'.

I've set myself the task of getting a decent Swallow BIF. Its almost impossible but with a bit of luck I'll get a decent one before the end of the summer. I've noticed a certain pattern to help, in that they rise slightly before dipping to the water surface to pick off any flies skimming on the surface. At this point they bleed off some speed and allow the best chance to capture a shot. Still not happy with the results but I'll keep on tryin'.

Also - Old man Heron is still goin' strong and giving some nice poses:

Good to hear from you John. I like the Swallow shot, alot of action shown with water droplets. Old Man heron has seen a few years, hasn't he!

You always come up with the goods, John. That's a skilful shot to get a swallow like that even if it did display a pattern, it's most likely the only way to get a shot of them.

Lol..Old man heron having a scratch.

Great shots John!  We had housemartins exploring the eaves of a house at the back of us this morning, first time i've ever seen them around here.  Lots of swifts in the sky atm, but no swallows.  Watched 2 crows and a seagull mobbing and chasing off a buzzard earlier this morning aswell.  It's been a birdy day :)
