Title: Re: Aurora Storm Post by: martinastro on March 13, 2009, 04:48:15 pm I couldn't see anything here Tyler because the sky was muck ahead of a front (some atmospherics though) but I could see the brighter stars at the zenith. I got some shock when I saw the charts at 04.30 UT. The IMF was south, KP 5 and oval was almost touching N. Ireland so it must have been low, in fact, that's the lowest it has been in a long time. I'm sure there could have been brief low level displays from N UK and USA during that period. I had a feeling the coronal hole would produce something because it was the first one in a long time which was located at the centre of the Sun and of decent size so it gave a good hit!. Good to see some lively action again :)
Title: Re: Aurora Storm Post by: martinastro on March 13, 2009, 06:47:24 pm Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to increase to unsettled to active levels during days 1 - 2 (13 - 14 March) with a chance for minor to major storm periods at high latitudes due to a recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream. Field activity is expected to decrease to mostly quiet levels on day 3 (15 March). |
