Title: Large CB's today
Post by: stuart2588 on March 09, 2009, 01:27:52 pm
Just in from a driving lesson along the Antrim road there and I had some very heavy pea sized hail comming from a massive cell crossing over Belfast Lough. All sunny here now but everything was very dark as it passed. I am certain that there may have been lightning from it but unfortunately I didint manage to stop on the lesson to have a proper look lol.

What is the best sferics chart to use these days?

Many thanks for the report Stuart. That sounds like a big one for sure. Some big showers are still around today and some of these would have been cbs. Here's the best sferics link....

It was wild here last night. More squalls, hail, rain and non stop anvils blowing over which looked amazing among the stars.

Stuart, I think I saw that CB - there was a huge and very black cloud towards Belfast when I went out for lunch circa 1230. Missed me but looked menacing.

That's a good shot Paul. Looks like the anvil is collapsing down!

I checked that time frame on the radar, there where a few weak returns in that area but nothing strong, although the radar can underestimate the precip amount if it was hail or snow falling.

Those are great images Paul.

I am down your neck of the woods most days round the driving test routes! Some great views along the coast.

Have you guys ever watched this link?

Its Ried Timmer from storm chasers, on a live link to his chases. Looks like they are getting ready to head out now. The radar seems pretty good too.

Could I add these two .  I quite  like 'Blitzortung-'  Blitz means lightning and Ortung - location (german of course)

I also look at this other one.  http://www.newtonandnoss.com/weather/lightning/
